I want to honor one of the great men in my life. He was born Omar Delton Phelps Jr. To me he is Uncle Delton, or Uncle Del. If the stories are true he was born a fighter. I have been told that he was born prematurely back in October of 1931. He was born with see through skin and no fingernails. His incubator was an overstuffed chair pushed as close to the fire as was safely possible. He is my mom's oldest brother, he is a Marine, a husband and soul mate to my wonderful Aunt Janet, the father of my 3 awesome cousins Lori, Chris and Lisa and a grandfather to Sharon, Delton, Dayton, Shelby, Connor, Erika and Kyle, great grand father to Eden Grace and so much more. He always seems calm to me. He never reacts to a situation until he had all the facts and then he reacts with calm and purpose. He is charming. He could take the clerk at the grocery store who wore a frown and spoke with an angry, impatient voice and have her smiling and laughing and wishing him a good day in the 5 minutes he interacted with her. I have always been amazed by this as I am nothing like that.. He has these blue eyes that speak volumes when he is silent. He is gentle and caring, yet strong and sure of himself. He is my uncle and one of the most amazing men I have ever known.
